NAV2013 Glance 13: More Fields That Have Been Stretched

The other day my fellow MVP Vjekoslav Babic informed us that the length of G/L Account Name in NAV 2013 has been changed from from 30 characters to 50 characters to which he added:

In NAV 2013, this change is not only about G/L Account – the length of all Name and Description fields in all master tables has been consistently set to 50.

… and let me add that this also applies to all fields that, directly or indirectly, refer to/make use of these fields.

Detailed analysis of all Text and Code fields showed me that, regarding the stretching of fields, this is only one part of the story as there are many more fields that did undergo this exercise. Have a look at these statistics:

One way or another these fields have been stretched. Being fields that contain a user id, an external document number, a report name, etc. The Type of Field column contains either the exact field name (e.g. Customer Disc. Group) or a kind of consolidated name (e.g. User ID as there are various fields with different names that refer to a user id). For the complete overview and details download this Excel file.

Notes

  • The comparison was done between NAV 2009 R2 and NAV 2013 beta
  • You have to realize that this is based on NAV 2013 beta and as such still subject to changes
  • In some cases the stretching seems to be not complete yet; for these I have logged a couple of entries on msconnect

  1. @Rado, you are right for RTM (and probably also for Beta I am not sure).

    Thanx for adding your comment!

  2. Rado was fully right (alsofor Beta), therefor I have adjusted it in the post itself (see the red colored number 35).
